Water Resources

Water is the prime ingredient in making every commodity we create and is a precious natural resource. We are doing our part to lower its use in our methods. For example, our Georgia carpet production facilities lower water consumption by 35%. Most of this progress is due to enhanced dyeing methodologies.

Other actions are as easy as changing mowed lawns at our institutions to natural landscaping. Making wildlife habitats with wildflowers and native grasses lowers water consumption and the results are clever and alluring. Creating Natural Landscape Buffers to Stop Erosion and Runoff

Several years ago, some wetlands bordering our New Jersey site lacked a transitional place between land and water, also called a "riparian buffer". Naturally, these overgrown locations near streams or estuary block erosion and sediment runoff, give cover and provide needed food and shade to fish as well as animals. Along with the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, NJ Audubon Society, and local schools we sowed thousands of native shrubs and trees around our facilities. By sowing these riparian buffers we created areas of shrub-scrub habitat with a life expectancy of more than 30 years (eventually succeeding to forest). In the initial 30+ years of establishment, the project will give habitat for bird species in danger: blue-winged warbler, eastern kingbird, brown thrasher, prairie warbler, eastern towhee and field sparrow. Having a dedicated goal to better energy efficiency by 25% over ten years, Mannington is advancing with ongoing, meticulous energy management efforts to expand the energy efficiency of all of its operations. We are committed to lowering  related carbon emissions.

When we heard about the enormous amounts of drywall choking landfills, we reconfigured our Premium Tile to include pulverized gypsum which is taken from regional construction locations. Only Mannington includes drywall into their flooring.

 

EPA Smartway Transport Partnership

Mannington has been a partner in the reduction of transit carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide by finding better ways to make their freight operations more environmental friendly since 2010. For their efforts in this area as well as their leadership, Mannington received the Smartway Excellence Award in 2013.
